Running Accomplishments:

I started running in 2008 while I was a stay-at-home-mom.  I discovered this blog in July 2010 and followed the advice from the blog to gradually improve my distance/speed.  I achieved various PR's in 2010/2011.   I went back to work part-time in 2012-2015 and switched to mostly running trail runs.   When I got prego with my third child in 2016, I stopped running and started work full-time.   After a 7 year hiatus, I returned to running in 2022.  I have alot of work to do to get back in shape, but looking forward to the challenge!

8 miles at 6:30am with group.  Felt hard but I did have some hard miles.  8:15, 7:30, 7:49, 7:39, 7:20, 7:35, 8:45, 9:09

Starting at this time, the sun was out more and it was beating down.  Final miles I slowed down and let the guy I was running with go on without me.

Time: 7:30am.  Weather=83-85F, 60% humidity, sunny.

This race was tough for me.  Not sure why.  It felt really hot.  We started much later in the day then I've been running all summer so the sun was a beat down.  Maybe I was also dehydrated.  Couldn't muster a sub-8 to save my life.   Average pace =8:19/m, but that's probably sckewed because I walked through every water stop.  Everytime I looked at my watch it was 8:06 pace... it was like the magic number of the day.

It's highly disappointing.  I plugged this time into race predictor and it said I can expect to do a 4:00 marathon at a 9:09/m pace.  Wow!   Is that really the time I should be shooting for at NYC now?

I don't know how to react to this.  It's been really hard marathon training and being a working mom.  Last week's business trip really messed me up.  I'm feeling down.  Perhaps I should just suspend all running ambition for now and just run to "finish" the marathon.  I feel stretched thin right now.

6am.  Cold front came in and the weather was awesome!  70F for the entire run.

I hadn't run much the last couple weeks because of work and illness.  I was feeling really down.  Finally, I just decided that I am ok with running NYC slow.  I'm ok if I don't PR.  My life is so busy and stressful right now, I am proud of myself for just not giving up on running and doing a marathon with all the other things that are on my plate right now.  Once I said that, I suddenly was re-inspired.

Most of my friends were running a race at my running store.  This new girl, Maureen, I recently met said she was going to run 17 miles at 9:20 pace.  I decided that sounded perfect.  It was just her and I.  We talked non-stop.  We didn't stop much so it was really good practice for the marathon.  9:20 pace was great!   My legs started hurting by mile 14 though.  I think I was dehydrated because I had a stomach bug for three days this week and on the run I wasn't drinking much from the water fountains along the trail ... er, well, I drink more when my running store has cups and water jugs out.

When we had about a mile to go, I told her I had to put in my ipod to focus because it hurt.  We sped up to 8:30 for that mile.  I realized that my legs felt much better when I changed pace.  I think that's going to be key to remember in a marathon... sometimes when your legs feel dead, you need to switch up the pace.

When I finished, I felt great!
