Running Accomplishments:

I started running in 2008 while I was a stay-at-home-mom.  I discovered this blog in July 2010 and followed the advice from the blog to gradually improve my distance/speed.  I achieved various PR's in 2010/2011.   I went back to work part-time in 2012-2015 and switched to mostly running trail runs.   When I got prego with my third child in 2016, I stopped running and started work full-time.   After a 7 year hiatus, I returned to running in 2022.  I have alot of work to do to get back in shape, but looking forward to the challenge!

It's been 3 weeks since I pulled a calf muscle and stopped running.  The weather was perfect for running so I thought I'd give it a try today.  My calf was ok at first but then 1/2 mile out, it started hurting.  I turned around to run back to my house but I didn't want to stop running.  After experimenting I discovered that if I changed the way I ran, my calf didn't hurt at all.  So I just kept going and did a 4.5 mile loop.

Normally, I'm a toe runner.  Always have been.  Today I found that if I landed flat footed, no pain.  It felt very strange to run this way.  I felt slow and clumbsy.  I was kinda surprised I was doing 8:00ish pace.  Plantar Fasciitis is a stubborn injury.  I still had pain in my left foot.

It felt good to run again.

5 miles around my neighborhood. 40 degrees. Average pace=9:09/m. Right calf feels sore but mostly I felt ok. Definitely lost fitness after taking time off for this injury. I have gained about 5 pounds too. Goal is to go slow but run 5-6 miles everyday this week. Maybe next week I'll be in good enough shape to run with Ashley and Tim again.

5 miles at 3:15pm.  55 degrees and sunny.  Perfect running weather!!  Watch wasn't charged so I don't know pace.... probably about the same as yesterday, maybe slightly faster.  I'm feeling pretty good but I don't want to push it and risk injury.  Just ramping up slow and steady.

I remembered that the Benbrook Half Marathon is the end of January.  I think I'll make that my next goal race.  I need some kind of goal to keep myself interested.  This race is a really hilly course.  There is this one hill right in the middle that is especially NICE... no, really, it's actually called "Nice Hill".  Last year I ran it in 1:41:21.  It'll be a good test of fitness to see what I can do this year.

3.5 miles at 5pm. Weather=50 degrees. Average pace=9:30/m.

Pushing Jake in running stroller and answering questions the whole way. It was a good run. When we got back to our street the neighborhood children ran with us around the block.
